Byden does best when he is not the protagonist of american politics. Now, he trump has to be the main character at all times. He thinks a lot about what the john meechams of the world think bout him. Biden doesn't really give interviews that often,. But that's partlly because he doesn't think, you know, he had this implicit promise during the campaign. Obama cared about what the press thought about him and liten cares about his place in history - but in a different way.
