What Happened to the Japanese Yen?

The yen started to decline around January of 2021. Investors who don't like their returns in Japan are leaving for better options elsewhere on the road, particularly US treasuries and the like. In November of 2018, the 10 year treasury yield got as high as 3.25%, which isn't that far off where it is now. Yet during 2017 and 2018, Japan's yen was stronger against the dollar.
