Bob Kansy was a highly experienced naval aviator who had seen a lot of war. Because of his rescue by USS Tang, he does go back out to the Pacific and completes his tour of duty. You know, it's because of these types of efforts that you'll see these lifeguard rescue efforts throughout the rest of the war.
