The Great Hunger in Ireland
i'm going to run through some of the key turning points, which will help you understand why i think it is so important. The crisis began when blythe a previously unknown fungus appeared on potato crops in the east and then spread west across the island. Around forty percent of the crop was lost in 18 forty five, starvation was averted through a series of measures. At this point, the future of ireland increasingly lay in the hands of the british government.
