The Value of a High School Diploma

In 1997, 20 years ago, the average worker with a high school diploma earned $12,000 more per year than the average person without one. Today that figure has dropped to about $10,000 for people who have no high school diploma at all. A college degree adds an additional $21,000 in value each year compared to someone not having one. The unemployment rate today is 8% versus around 5%.
