I think he is a dead man walking. It's really a question of how long you're talking about elections coming up next year. He will, of course, try and shore up his position. But I would venture to say that any candidate coming forward on a liberalizing manifesto in the next elections will not get very far. The depressing fact is that the war is not that unpopular. Many have bought the line from the Kremlin, that Russia is the victim.
