The author of the Wheel of Time served in the Vietnam War. He spoke about that experience like extensively and it definitely reflects in his writing. The trollock attack itself doesn't really seem like a very coordinated attack. It's almost just like an overwhelming monster attack. And you just kind of see the helplessness where even these people who are supposed to be the carers for the villagers, they just can't do anything even in this moment. I think what this scene does is it shows the power and strength and overall scariness of a single trollock.
