Is There a Threat That's an Ideational Threat?
Both Russia and China have moved towards a nationalist ideology more than anything resembling a traditional Marxist, Leninist or Maoist ideology. The root of the problem is that both regimes are authoritarian; they're afraid of their own people. They're converging on something which they hope will solidify their grip on power, but they don't rest easy.
