The Death of Caligula

By 39, Caligula's relationship with the Senate and people was shot. The man they had once hailed as their savior had proved himself to be nothing more than an erratic sadist who was bankrupting the empire. Catching wind that some kind of resistance movement was being organized he called the Senate to meet and revealed to them a big surprise. He had made copies of all the trees and trowel notes that he had allegedly destroyed upon taking office. Suddenly, the trees and Trowels were back up and running.
