Other scientists had been working in similar fields and possibly even observed the effect of x-rays already. Will Hernründgen presented his findings to his local scientific society at the end of 1895. There was a lot of interest in passing currents across gases. As soon as you could pass a current across a vacuum in one of these glass bulbs or crooks tubes you would make x-rays. What good speed did was he had some pennies from American coins. He saw a shadow of the made by the vacuum tube by the crooks tube on some photographic paper, didn't know what it was and stuck it in the drawer. This is not to take away from rungun discovery
