Mabe: It's not the full figures, but the shadows that you see flitting across the edges of the room that i found most engaging and sometimes most beautiful here. We don't learn a whole lot about her from a sort of am from, i guess, in comparison to a lot of memoirs. In other ways, it's very much a flirtation with something more like the impersonal essay where the personal is present more is a ghost than a determining factor.
