How to Use a Real Person or Event in Your Book
When you write about real people, and it's obvious you're writing about X person. You're opening yourself up to potential litigation risk with defamation. One way to get around this is to write a creative nonfiction work where the characters are clearly from your life. Now, if you're if you're writing an autobiography or a biography, that's something I'd recommend doing - getting a release from the person.
