Slavery in the Roman Empire

Slavery in britain was here long before the romans. But i think we suspect that the presence of the roman empire on the doorstep accelerated the process an awful lot. And we see that sadly reflected inc much later colonial examples, where societies are completely bowld over by the presence of an empire driven by slavery.
