The Difference Between Hard Systems Thinking and Soft Systems Thinking

A lot of times when people think about systems thinking, they're thinking about things like design systems. I think design systems and any sort of complex systems that are oriented around solving engineering problems fall into the hard systems methodology. Whereas soft systems thinking is kind of the area that I feel like best describes what I'm writing about,. So how do you take a systemic lens to learning about a problem space?
