Gengis khan would soon unleash an invasion of china, where anywhere between ten to forty million people may have been killed. While they had come as conquerors, moslems would soon be arriving in great numbers as desperate refugees. After the death of mohammed huri, the next hundred years saw a succession of weak rulers, tyrants and constant assassinations. The horse powered armies of the sultanat were able to turn them back, sometimes inflicting massive defeats on mongol armies.
