Before the eighties, it had been pretty uncommon for supreme court nominees to let go before the senate and answer questions at all. Bork is the first nominee ever to get a televized senate hearing. He gets rejected on october 20 third, by a vote of 58 to forty two. The sense of evance over bork's nomination gets burned deep into the conservative soul u  and it is still smouldering a few years later.
