Aren't We Teaching People How to Manage Their Relationship With Our Bosses?
When i first got a manageral job, i was 26. I think the first time i got some sort of leadership training was really after ten years. There's very little about how to manage their relationship with our bosses. A 75 % of your time at day, any day, you are actually following someone else's a vision. And that's why we haven't taught people how to manage up because we're afraid of the word follower. People don't want to be considered followers. We need to stop looking at the leader follower dynamic as a power dynamic and start looking at it as a relationship dynamic. In a relationship, everybody has agency, everybody has choice and everybody has power.
