It's by Reiner Stock, author of a landmark three-volume biography of the Czech modernist and surprisingly funny chronicler of 20th century misery and metamorphoses. What we have in this book are 99 surprises, things drawn from Kafka's life by his biographer. We'll read the first and last paragraph from the preface of the book.
