The Athenian Plague
Over 30,000 Athenian citizens died of the plague from 430 to 427 BC. It was so severe and deadly that no one could recall anything happening quite like this before. Researchers are indifferent on what specific disease was the culprit as around 30 pathogens have been suggested for it. The exact nature may never be known.
