How to Stop an Abusive Friendship

My mother and aunt grew up on a farm in central Florida that was relatively in the middle of nowhere at the time. My grandfather coached for the local high school football team and my mom and aunt were cheerleaders. On one particular Friday she felt sick so decided to stay home with her family but not long after maybe five or ten minutes they went out. She was alone on their property which could get very creepy at night if you weren't used to it. Her grandparents kept a shotgun on the bedroom wall fully loaded and still do today.
