In this episode, i want to look at a society that has been all but forgotten by popular narratives of history. The songhai people of west africa rose up among some of the harshest conditions our planet can throw at us. I want to explore how they united two warring traditions became cosmopolitan and pluralistic society as well as africa's greatest empire. And i want to explain why, after barely more than a century of greatness, their whole society collapsed around them. This will be an epi d about cycles.
