Data analytics was a huge part of what was going on during the pandemic. UKRI funded projects where you could test wastewater to see what viruses were in it. The data turned out to be really accurate because sewage plants are relatively local things. You knew if there was a major COVID outbreak happening in a part of the country, sometimes ahead of any other data.
