History of the French Revolution

France was one of the most powerful countries in europe, and therefore the world. Its population had grown from 18 to 26 million during the eighteenth century. Beneath the surface, beneath these superficial sound bites, not everything was rosy. France was a deeply unequal society with corruption at every level. In unequal pyramid peasants worked for the land for very little pay while the aristocrats enjoyed a luxurious standard of living.
