Maths is a surviving field. It's not physics, it doesn't have anything to do with Physics as such. And I can see that over the last 40 years or so, even with cellular automata, it's kind of like, you know, cataloging what are the different cellular automata used for? The idea of studying simple rules and what they do, it's a timeless activity. You find an icosahedron that somebody made in ancient Egypt, you look at it, oh, that's a very modern thing. He says he has never really done something like this before.
