The Importance of the Church in Machen's Fighting
Machen grew up in a lawyer's home and had a brother who was also an attorney. These are something about Machen's outlook that was fundamentally legal in ways. You do see Machen appeal a lot to the constitution of the Presbyterian church, just the way conservative, political conservatives in America appeal to the U.S. constitution. The confession and catechisms are part of the constitution of a Presbyterian church. It's part of the law of the church.
