Dr. Rosenfeld had carried out abortions in Michigan, Maryland and even Reagan's home state of California before landing in Texas. In 1980, anti-abortion groups started picketing the clinics and then starting picking his home. They called themselves sidewalk counselors and stood outside clinics to intervene before a woman had an abortion. "I just thought they were religious fanatics," he says.
