Do You Use a Commentary When Preparing for the Bhagavad Gita?

Most of the Bhagavad Gita is a dialogue between Sri Krishna and Arjuna. So we can ask the question, is this a literal transcript of the dialogue that took place on the battlefield? Well, first of all, recall the fact that these verses are metrical and in Sanskrit. What we are studying is a composition by the great Rishi, Vyasa who we believe was omniscient. And after the fact, he composed these verses to reflect what he knew to have taken place on thebattlefield.
