The Hessian Rebellion in the Battle of Trenton
In the days before the battle, Colonel Raul had written to Hessian Colonel Carl von Donop to say that they were underband and that they were exhausted. General James Grant wrote off the idea that Washington would ever dare to cross the Delaware at this time of year. But even though he had pretty much been like this is not an actual problem, he did write to Raul on Christmas Eve with a note that said Washington has been informed that our troops have been marched into winter quarters.
