The RBA Governor's Comments on Multi-Employer Bargaining
We don't like the fact that the construction industry is treated separately to other sectors when it comes to bargaining laws. It's really a criticism, I suppose, of where monetary policy sits currently in Australia and a lot of Western countries. The inflationary crisis is being caused in the main by corporate profit-taking and corporate profiteering. So we just think it's deluded and out of touch for someone like Philip Lowe to then come out and say, well, the fix to this is to increase interest rates. But at the same time, working people should also absorb more pain to fix this crisis, which they haven't made, and show wage restraint.
