In his last work, Gerard says we can become fixated on models or people that we view as rivals in some way. And I think because this is his other thing is that really he says, modernity is impossible without Christianity. In my view, Christianity and secular culture have in some ways become rivals to one another in, in unhealthy ways. It's a mistake for the church to be looking at secular culture and constantly sort of like feeling like it needs to play catch up or something like that.
