The Hoa Hakanana Ia and Moai Havers

Easter Island was colonised by Polynesian people in about 1000 AD. Not long after that, they started carving these stones called stone moi. Only Hoa Hakanana Ia is actually on display at the moment. The other one is in storage and has been there ever since. They were originally constructed to represent ancient Polynesian ancestors. By 1500 AD, its ritual purpose had changed where the statue was more strongly associated with the Tangata Manu also known as the Birdman religion.
