Is There a Time for Nothing Is Necessary?
Oliver Sacks has been talking about an essay by the philosopher David Hume called my own life. He is terminally ill and hoping for a speedy dissolution so he's picking up from that. It is difficult to be more detached from life than I am at present, says Mr Sacks. This doesn't mean I'm finished with life - on the contrary, I feel intensely alive. And I want and hope in the time that remains to deepen my friendships to say farewell to those I love.
