Refuge to the Three Jewels
The three jewels are what Buddhists say are the deepest values in human life. The Buddha was an enlightened human being, and that's why the Mahayana makes for these realms of the imagination. And then there's going for refuge to the Sangha, where we enter into communication with those who may be only a bit further on. So sometimes becoming a Buddhist is a bit of an upheaval. We find we have to make quite big changes to our lives.
