Sally Kohn: I think the most we can hope for is just kind of put it out there. Now, what about the climate deniers, the vaccine hesitant people? She says often these things don't turn on the facts, right? It turns on some other value that people hold. Kohn: There's something to be said about deconstructing mistakes that scientists are making as all these issues are happening simultaneously.

For too long, the term insubordination has evoked negative feelings and mental images. But for ideas to evolve and societies to progress, it’s vital to cultivate rebels who are committed to challenging conventional wisdom and improving on it. Change never comes easily. And most would-be rebels lack the skills to overcome hostile audiences who cling desperately to the way things are.
