The Dining Kruger Effect

When someone is drawing a conclusion based on a stereotype, they often feel like facts. There's an inverse relationship between our level of knowledge and the confidence we feel in our judgments. Why would we overestimate our ability when we are ignorant? One possible explanation is that if we have little information, we can't judge how accurate our performance is.
