Historiansplaining: A historian tells you why everything you know is wrong
Movie Review - Sir Gawaine
The movie represents a recasting of sir gawaine into more like the world of macbeth, with all its psychological and mythological associations. Like in shakespeare's play, this misty, gloomy setting allows the story to combine a sort of gritty psychological realism to ether with the possibility of magic and prophecy. So the overall style of the movie, i think, gives it a unifying mood and atmosphere. But the downside is that it reduces a lot of the tension of the story.
