What's the Halt on Antibiotics?
Cochrane review found no difference in intubation rates or NIV rates. IV magnesium can cause bronchodilation caused by inhibiting calcium influx into the smooth muscle cells so therefore it might be beneficial for those with an exacerbation of COPD. The jury is still out there a little bit but it should probably be remembered that IV magnesium does have a pretty good safety profile as wellso the risk of harm would seem to be relatively low.
