There's no way to compare like a one intelligence factor across species. So for instance, border collies are often thought to be very smart dogs. But if what you want in a companion dog is a dog who will rest by your feet and sleep all day until you're ready to take them out - maybe a Labrador or a retriever is much smarter than the border collie.
