The Environmental Impact of Cotton on Water Resources
Cotton has grown in 75 different countries, and the conditions of growth vary dramatically. A report found that Turkmenistan uses 5.5 million litres of water per capita. It's four times the amount used by the average US citizen. This is a problem, as desertification is spreading in Turkmenistan. Areas of the Aral Sea in nearby Uzbekistan are drying up rapidly.
