Violet's contractions were so bad she demanded gas in air. The midwife gave her a few puffs of the gas as a reward for giving birth at home. She says it was like night and day: 'I'd never had it early with any of the babies' But pushing went on for not 20 minutes, not one hour, maybe six more hours.
