Chesterton's Hypothesis on Progress
Lewis: Where did people get this idea that everything is just progressing from worse to better? And he puts forward a hypothesis, which when he said it, again, I think this is why this should be taught in history. So firmly on the human mind is a new archetypal image of old machines being superseded by new and better ones. It's kids discovering flip phones or making fun of those old brick cell phones in the 1980s.
