Russia is effectively a gas fired economy, particularly for urban heat and for electricity. 70% of the natural gas produced by russia goes into the domestic economy. Two big fields in east siberia are providing the basis for the first new export gas pipe line going to china. The so called power of siberia project just started operation in the last year and a half, two years.
