How to Get People to Open an Email

The first thing I do is my dad used to tell me every day he dropped me off from school in second grade, it's better to listen than to talk. He would tell me that all the time and I'd always get talking on my report card. But I've taken that into my business because before I write an email, before I put out a social post,  I have to really understand what are they thinking and where are they right now?
