The Binding of Abraham
LZ Granderson: The Binding is one of the most debated texts in biblical scholarship. He says it marks Abraham, the first Jew, as God's servant par excellence. LZ: It raises thorny questions about whether blood sacrifices are necessary for light religion. Later biblical authors roundly condemned the whole idea; they don't condemn its immorality but say it was wrong to kill small children and defiled holy sanctuary.
