The Role of Universal Basic Income in Social Democracy
Reducing the working week was an obvious aim for those moving into more democratic society, basically. The 40-week is just the next step in that. It's been 80 years since we reduced the working week to a five-day week. That's a clear sign that we're managing to develop our own well-being while also keeping productive as a society and so on. So from my money, I think shorter working hours and UBI are just extensions of the direction of travel that more emancipatory and more progressive ends of social democracy were already pushing.
