There are a hundred and 30 workhises in ireland. On the eve of the famine, they have a capacity of between 80 thousand and a hundred thousand persons. By 18 forty nine, they have 900 million people within their walls. And there's a social stigma attached to them. You more likely to intensify a disease if you had it, or catch one if you didn't. So what we must do is put in place of policy to deal with it in terms of the long term.
