The Catchy Chorus of the Hebrew Bible
The most frequent depiction of sin in the whole of the Old Testament is the analogy of marital infidelity. But then there's this promise solution, a person, a bridegroom who is unquenchably loving and inexhaustibly faithful even in the midst of the bride's infidelity. The primary imagery used in the Hebrew Bible to explain the human condition is embodied, sexual and ultimately about a love that overcomes lust. It is profoundly human and profoundly good.
