Merlin's Ageing Backwards
I just felt like a series of psychedelic drug trips, the transformations. I think that's what I loved about this idea of sort of approaching nature through taking different perspectives in a very extreme way. And it really made me think about the difference between awe and wonder. The knights and the kings in this book are not romantic characters, they're just these rather hapless, incompetent and rather sweet people. Merlin is just such a great character. He is not a wise and alarming wizard. He's this somewhat incompetent wizard who actually what he wants to do is knit. Also undermine beautifully with humour, the sort of whole romance of chivalry.
