What's the Difference Between Strong and Weak Verbs?
At some point, multiple forms of the verb coexisted. Over time, english speakers settled on form over the other. Strong verbs like help had two different past tense forms as speakers became confused about proper forms. And using that same process, a weak verb like ringed became rung.
