I was determined to work in the public realm. I always thought that as architects, it's no use doing boutique projects for the for the upper crust of India. A lot of Indian architecture is all about tiny boutique projects done extremely well but they serve the upper crust and nobody else. So if I really wanted to improve on the bad, I had to have a focus on the lives of ordinary people. We must create public space. And so I've always wanted to do that.
